A
wonderfully original and historical, Shropshire lantern clock by Richard Savage of Wenlock Magna. The names of the first owners, 'Edw. and Mill.Pardo' are engraved on the front fret. Research found that - Edward Pardoe of ye parish of Milford Globe in ye County of Salop And Milborough Brown of ye parish of Yarpole in ye County of Herefordshire were marryed April 30th Anno Domini 1692 byLysense.
he lantern clock is very interesting in its own right. Not only has it been made by one of Shropshires earliest known domestic clockmakers, but it is in an amazing original condition throughout, retaining all of its original wheelwork. It has goblet shaped collets and a verge pendulum, positioned inside the backplate. The top and bottom plates are made of iron instead of brass and it has an integral iron hoop, indicating that Rchard Savage was a maker who clearly thought for himself.
t is exceptionally rare to find a17th century clock with a known date of origin and ownership.
